A concert in memory of legendary musician Lou Reed is set to take place this weekend.
The celebration, The Bells: A Daylong Celebration of Lou Reed will take place this weekend in New York City. The event has been organised at short notice by the late musician’s widow, producing partner Hal Wilner and artist Laurie Anderson.
When asked about the event, Anderson said: “It’s going to be an amazing day” before adding: “It’s a gigantic puzzle, with all the new things we’re going to add to the mix. People just hear about it and say, ‘Hey, I’m going to be in town, can I play?’ We’ll never say no to that.”
In terms of the artists who have agreed to play at the event, the names include Sonic Youth, David Johansen and Lenny Kaye. Actor William Defoe has also agreed to do a reading of Reed’s lyrics at the event.
The event, which forms a major part of the Lincoln Centre’s Out of Doors festival is set to take place over the 30th and 31st July this weekend. Listen to one of Reed’s most iconic tracks below:
