Michael Morpurgo has been at London’s National Theatre this morning for the launch of the recently confirmed tour of the award winning play, War Horse. The production is set to tour over ten months in a variety of venues, including The Mayflower in 2014.
War Horse is a deeply uplifting tale about a horse named Joey who is enlisted by the army in World War I, despite the protestations of his owner, Albert. The young boy goes on a quest to find the horse in order to bring him back home, away from the horrors he has encountered during the war.
West End’s New London Theatre has been showcasing War Horse since 2009, and has won multiple awards – two of which are coveted Laurence Olivier awards for choreography and set design. The book was adapted into a screenplay, directed by Steven Spielberg, and was released in the UK earlier this year to critical acclaim.
Tickets for War Horse have gone on sale TODAY and can be bought from the box office here. The show’s run is from February 19th to March 15th 2014.

Brilliant play, hope the tour lives up to the West End’s production.
I am intrigued to see the way it’s going to be set on a touring stage! The West End performance was fantastic, and the theatre chosen was chosen due to the stage…I personally cannot see it being staged that well at The Mayflower but we will see!
