As we come towards the end of November we have some great shows coming up in the local cultural venues:
O2 Guildhall Southampton
TV funny man and all round provocateur Russell Brand brings his world tour, Messiah Complex to Southampton for a two night stint this week. The 26th November is sold out, but some tickets are still available for the 27th – they are on the pricier side for students, at £32 each, but well worth if you’re a fan of his comedy. Doors open at 7:30.
Mayflower Theatre
The Welsh National Opera takes over the Mayflower theatre this week, bringing Southampton a series of Operas through the week:
Tosca by Puccini is being performed Tue 26 & Sat 30 November, and is a fast paced classical opera with some fresh new talent to the Welsh National Opera.
They are also performing three new productions, starting with Anna Bolena by Donizetti looks at ‘the original Boleyn girl’ Anne, which is being performed on Wed 27 November. On Thursday 28th the company perform Maria Stuarda also by Donizetti imagines what would have happened if Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scotts had ever met. Finally, the thrilling triology is completed by Roberto Devereux by Donizetti, which explores the final days of Elizabeth I and her attempts to protect the Earl of Essex, Robert Devereux, on Friday 29th. All shows start at 7.15, and for people under 30, tickets to all of these shows are a bargain at £5 a head! There are a maximum of 2 tickets per booking, and both will need to provide ID, all booking details are here.
Theatre Group
SUSU’s Theatre Group will be performing their last two shows of Happily Ever After? on Saturday 23rd November, a matinee and evening performance which is shaping up to be a fantastic show which asks . Check out our preview here. Tickets are £6 for students, or £5 with a PA card from here.
Jazzmanix
The Jazzmanix winter concert is showing on the 23rd and 24th NOvember in Turner Simms concert hall, and is shaping up to be a great show, with an eclectic mix of pop and gospel tunes – tickets for students at £5, and available here.
