Sky Atlantic have released the impressive cast that is to star in their upcoming drama, Fortitude.
The likes of Stanley Tucci (The Lovely Bones, The Hunger Games) and Michael Gambon (The King’s Speech) will join forces with Doctor Who‘s Christopher Eccleston, Call The Midwife‘s Jessica Raine and Game of Thrones‘ Richard Dormer for Sky Atlantic’s most enterprising project yet.
The drama is to consist of thirteen episodes, focusing on how a brutal murder of a British research scientist affects a previously safe community and its future as a homogenous town.
Dormer is to play the local chief of the police, whilst Tucci is to be a newcomer to the town with the role of Dormer’s partner. Eccleston is to portray a scientist and Raine plays the chief search and rescue pilot. The Killing‘s Sofie Gråbøl is also cast as the town’s governor, with the murder injuring her plans for the town’s prosperity. With what seems an endless amount of characters, the plot focusing on a suspicious murder and the title of the drama also being the name of the town, the drama has the same feel as ITV’s success story, Broadchurch.
Julia Barry, Director, Sky Atlantic said: “Our audience loves great, world-class story-telling and so Fortitude is a perfect fit for Sky Atlantic. We’re thrilled to welcome Stanley – in his first British television role – and the rest of this amazing group of actors to the channel.”
Originally, Starz signed on to co-produce Fortitude with Sky Atlantic. However, in December 2013, the company decided to pull out, leaving Sky Atlantic as the independent producer.
The drama series is to be shot early this year, with the hope to air in the latter part of 2014.
