Singer-songwriter Tom Odell has provided a melancholic rendition of John Lennon’s ‘Real Love’ for John Lewis’ Christmas advert.
The two-minute long advert tells the story of a young boy, Sam and his penguin friend Monty. The two are inseparable, but Monty becomes sad and lonely without a companion. By Christmas morning, Sam surprises Monty with a penguin friend, Mabel.
‘Monty’s Christmas Day’ is the seventh John Lewis advert directed by Dougal Wilson, and follows last year’s huge success ‘The Bear and the Hare’ which was accompanied by Lily Allen’s cover of Keane’s ‘Somewhere Only We Know’.
The advert will get its TV premiere on Friday during the first advert break in Gogglebox on Channel 4.
