With the BAFTA awards broadcasting tonight, and the Oscars only a few weeks away, here at The Edge we are giving you the run down of our choices for the winners in 2014. Film Editor Barnaby tells you who should win the awards, and Culture Editor Rebecca says who probably will win, given the previous award ceremony wins.

Barnaby: For both ceremonies, Captain Phillips. I think that it is a particularly weak list this year, but if any of them deserve it, it is Paul Greengrass’s furiously intense Captain Phillips.
Rebecca: I think that the Oscar will go to The Wolf of Wall Street, particularly if it doesn’t get the best actor nod. The BAFTA will most likely go to 12 Years a Slave, with its very British roots.

Barnaby: Saving Mr Banks. It was robbed of a best picture nomination at both ceremonies, so its should prevail in this category.
Rebecca: I tend to agree with Barnaby here, I think that the awards voters will have this in mind, so Saving Mr Banks seems to be a good bet.

Rebecca: As much as I desperately want this to be Leonardo DiCaprio’s year, I think that Matthew McConaughey in Dallas Buyers Club will win the Oscar, given his SAG award win. Chiwetel Ejiofor in 12 Years A Slave for the BAFTA, because of the award’s traditional bias towards British actors, and his momentum as the ‘rising star’ of the moment.
