I don’t want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing I need
I don’t care about pod-races
Or wookies up the Christmas tree
I just want Star Wars to be good
Just like we all know it should
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas…
Is to not be bitterly disappointed by the new Star Wars film that isn’t being directed by George Lucas!
Admittedly, I only saw Star Wars for the first time this month – it was a big event. But having seen the trailer and made plans to see it, I’ve been trying to perfect my Wookie impression before I go to watch it on the 22nd.
For a large number of Star Wars fans, they will have been waiting for 7 years to see The Force Awakens, whereas I will have waited… 14 days. And I have to admit, my worry about Disney making this film in conjunction with Lucasfilm has been eased since finding out that:
- George Lucas always said he wasn’t going to make any more, but willingly turned it over to the new Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, so that’s… promising.
- He hand-picked J. J. Abrams to direct it, and was torn about selling the rights, especially when Disney were ‘not that keen’ to involve Lucas, but he was pretty involved in the making of The Force Awakens, because of how much he knows about the Star Wars universe. Which, you know, makes sense. It’s his creation.
In summary, Star Wars writers and Disney, please read my cringey ‘All I Want for Christmas’ rework, and before I see it on the 22nd, promise me that it’s good and the writing is better than the third prequel, because… that deserves a whole other day!
