Acts to look forward to at Boardmasters 2016

The folks at Boardmasters have added yet another wonderful batch of names to their already impressive line-up, so just in case headliners like Chase and Status and James Bay weren’t enough to save the date, their latest update includes acts such as alt-rock band Maximo Park, indie rockers Auction For The Promise Club and Electro drum and base duo Icarus as well as a staggering 10 more artists. Here is a selection of acts to keep an eye out for, straight from their newest line up announcement!

MAXIMO PARK

Formed an incredible 16 years ago, Maximo Park consists of Paul Smith on vocals, Duncan Lloyd on guitar, Archis Tiku on bass, Lukas Wooller on keyboard and Tom English on drums. They are currently signed to Warp Records and have a total of five studio albums, two of which reached Gold in the UK, with their debut album nominated for a very prestigious Mercury Prize. Their latest album, Too Much Information, was released in 2014 and contains a number of their hit singles, including ‘Leave This Island’ and ‘Midnight On The Hill’.

MICHAEL KIWANUKA

For fans of Otis Redding and Van Morrison, Kiwanuka is set to be a sure favourite. Born in 1987, he is a British soul musician born and bred in Muswell Hill, North London and graduated from the University of Westminster from their School of Media, Arts and Design. Previously, his career began as a session guitarist, working with the likes of Chipmunk and Bashy before he went solo, performing his first ‘proper’ show at The Oxford in Kentish Town. Since, he has gone on to release two EP’s, including his debut, Tell Me A Tale, in 2011 and a studio album in 2012 entitled Home Again.

ICARUS

Not to be confused with the ultra-catchy Bastille release, Icarus are a four-piece band from London, consisting of Ollie Bown, Isambard Khroustaliov, Tom Griffiths and Ian Griffiths, formed in 1993. Their sound can be described as electronic drum and bass, however possesses elements of jazz and ‘rich instrumentation’. Previously, it has been described as “really beautiful and also quite kind of evil” by post-rock and electronic musician Kieran Hebden (also known as Four Tet). The band have a total of 11 studio albums and 4 EP’s.
