With the likes of Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Sia and David Guetta boasting the titles of main attractions at this years V Festival, the 21st anniversary is sure to be one of the biggest and best yet.
But as is the case with all major festivals, if you dog a bit deeper into the line-up, yo are sure to find some hidden gems that aren’t yet that blue chip act but most certainly could be one day in the future. In light of this, I’m going to give you my five picks from this year’s line-up at V Fest. If you’re heading to Weston or Hylands park between the 20th-21st August, be sure to check them out!
The YouTube sensation from Australia has seen a meteoric rise in his popularity in the past twelve months. The star has amassed more than four million subscribers and almost 250million views on his channel since he started posting videos back in 2007. He got his record deal in 2013 from EMI Australia and has since gone on to release two EP’s and his debut studio record Blue Neighbourhood in December of last year. The 20-year old has been championed for his work within the LGBT community and this month was named as the ‘One to Watch’ at the Billboard Music Awards.
The Swedish singer-songwriter first came to prominence in her home country when winning Talang Sverige (Sweden’s equivalent of Britain’s Got Talent) aged just ten back in 2008. In 2013 the now 18-year old signed a record deal with Epic Records in the States and in the last twelve months has begun to make a name for herself internationally. Her singles ‘Lush Life’ and ‘Never Forget You’ with MNEK both broke into the top five in the UK singles charts.
Bruce Fielder probably can’t quite believe what’s happened to him in the last nine months. Better known by his DJ stage name, the Norwich native has gone from completely unknown to arguably one of the UK’s most sought after DJs. His debut single ‘Easy Love’, which sampled the Jackson 5’s ‘ABC’, topped the UK singles chart, whilst his two follow up tracks, ‘Sweet Lovin” and ‘Say You Do’ which he collaborated with DJ Fresh on, both broke into the top five as well. 2016 promises to be a massive year for the 23-year old and he is sure to have festival crowds singing and dancing to their heart’s content this summer.
Featuring on BBC Radio 1Xtra’s ‘Hot For 2015’ list, the singer-songwriter has been writing since he was 15. His music echoes the soulful sounds of Bill Withers and Gil Scott-Heron. Based in North London, the youngster has gained massive specialist support and has thus far collaborated with the likes of Gorgon City and Joker.
Comprised of Jammo and Tommy, the duo based in Bristol have thus far provided remixes for the likes of Naughty Boy, Rudimental and Clean Bandit. Their music is heavily influenced by the sounds of the underground UK scene, with drum and bass, dubstep, garage and grime all finding their way into their music. The pair are known for their dark vibe, yet whilst always providing sounds that ravers will love to dance to.
