As part of what has become an annual tradition, Surge Radio will be broadcasting continuously throughout Thursday 14th and Friday 15th in aid of Comic Relief.
Previous years – including the alternating Sport Relief marathon – have seen events such as chilli challenges, impromptu episodes of Family Fortunes and red hair dying in the early hours of the morning, all in the name of charity.
The team will be broadcasting for 48 hours from the ‘redbrick’, just outside the main Union building with interactions planned throughout all the shows, the majority of which will last for two hours. You will also be able to listen online throughout the period. The schedule is now complete with over 50 various presenters and producers expected throughout the entire event.
Surge Head of Music Matt Wimsett had this to say about the event:
The marathon is important because it is becoming a huge Surge tradition. This will be the third time this has happened and each time the committee gets to put their own spin on it. And of course, we aim to raise as much money as possible for Comic Relief! The past marathons have raised around £500, and we would be over the moon to get anywhere near that! I’ve helped to organise the marathon this year with Claire Joines. It remains one of the funniest things I’ve done and pushed me to get more involved with Surge to this point where I now help to run the station.
