Western drama Slow West has added Michael Fassbender to its cast list. The German-Irish actor, made famous by films such as X-Men: First Class and Shame, is to star alongside actors Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Road) and Ben Mendelsohn (Animal Kingdom).
The film will be made by the executive producing team responsible for BBC Two’s hit drama Top of the Lake, with funding coming from Film4, DMC Film and The New Zealand Film Commission.
This is the second Western Fassbender has been in talks to star in the space of a year. He was originally supposed to be starring in Lynne Ramsay’s new directorial effort Jane Got a Gun before the production of the film collapsed when Ramsay departed in blaze of controversy.
Fassbender hinted back in 2011 that he may be in line to star in a film directed by ex-Beta Band member John Maclean, as pointed out IndieWire. However this is the most definite information released on their feature-film collaboration to date, with a late 2014 release-date looking likely.
Fans of the rising star won’t have to wait long to see him onscreen again. Fassbender will star in films 12 Years A Slave (from Shame Director Steve McQueen) and crime drama The Counsellor.
