A new, full length trailer has been released for the next instalment of Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
The trailer for the film, which features Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Ian McKellan, Orlando Bloom and Benedict Cumberbatch, is full of previously unseen footage. Old favourites from The Lord of The Rings trilogy make an appearance, like Orlando Bloom’s Legolas (who doesn’t appear to have aged, despite his last outing as the elf being ten years ago). The trailer shows some of the epic scope of what Bilbo and his companions have to face as they attempt to take back the mountain from the eponymous dragon, Smaug.
Smaug also features in the trailer – his eye, which was glimpsed only briefly in the last film is then followed by short snap shots of the dragon at the end. The trailer indicates a film full of drama and action, but not without a little humour and heart which made the first film infinitely more enjoyable.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is released in UK cinemas 13th December 2014.
