Transformers: Age of Extinction is the biggest box office hit of 2014

Transformers: Age of Extinction, the fourth instalment of the Transformers franchise, was the highest grossing film of 2014 – making over $1 billion worldwide.

The movie only made $245,439,076 in the US, meaning it was the least successful domestic performer in the franchise. However it made $800,000,000 overseas, allowing Age of Extinction to storm to the top of the end of year chart.

The top five earners of the year were: Transformers: Age of Extinction ($1,087,404,4992), Guardians of the Galaxy ($772,257,3163), Maleficent ($757,752,3784), X-Men: Days of Future Past ($746,045,7005) and  Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($714,083,572).
