It has been revealed that the upcoming film, Fifty Shades of Grey, has been given an 18 certificate by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), settling rumours that the film may be tamer than the book upon which it is based for the purpose of attracting wider audiences.
BBFC explained their decision with claims that the film beholds “strong sex and nudity, along with the portrayal of erotic role play based on domination, submission and sado-masochistic practices.”
Although strong nudity will be present in the film, Jamie Dornan – who plays Christian Grey in the adaptation – claims that it will feature no full-frontal male nudity on his behalf.
Fifty Shades of Grey was published back in 2011 and took the world by storm with its erotic content attracting mass attention and popularity, as well as worldwide criticism with regard to its portrayal of relationships.
The film, based on the first book in the trilogy, stars Dakota Johnson in its main role, opposite Dornan and will be released on Valentine’s Day, 14th February, this year.
