Shlohmo announces new album Dark Red

American experimental producer Henry Laufer, better known by his stage name Shlohmo, has announced the release of his second highly anticipated full-length album Dark Red.

News about the upcoming album came to light after a week of teasing fans with mysterious countdowns via his various social media platforms, so everyone was guessing what to expect from the artist.

Dark Red has been set to release on the 7th April with the 11-track effort following the previous full-length work Bad Vibes, released back in 2011.

Between albums the Los Angeles-based artist didn’t miss a boat to work with musicians like Jeremih and Banks, lending his murky edge to some more mainstream fare.

According to a press release, the record is an “uncanny marriage of his ever-evolving, richly textured sound with shades of ’90s IDM, R&B, cassette-tape Jungle, and, in an unexpected turn, sludge metal.” Laufer himself said it sounds as if “Electric Wizard tried to make an R&B record, or Boards of Canada meets Burzum by the River Styx.”

In the end of press release Shlohmo added: “You don’t have to like it, just listen to it.”

One of his collaboration projects with Berlin-based PURPLE is below.
