The first official image of Melissa Benoist in her Supergirl costume has been unveiled. Benefits is mainly known for portraying Marley Rose on Glee but has also appeared in Homeland and The Good Wife.
This incarnation of Supergirl includes the classic red ‘S’ across the chest with a red, blue and gold suit complete with a skirt.
Production on Arrow and The Flash producer Greg Berlanti’s latest DC Comics adaptation began earlier this week and is already gaining a huge audience.
CBS’s Supergirl will begin as Kryptonian refugee Kara Zor-El starts to embrace her super powers after hiding for most of her life. There is still no mention whether Superman will be making an appearance.
Kara works as an assistant to Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) at media conglomerate CatCo, where she has a blossoming romance with photographer Jimmy Olsen (Mehcad Brooks). Benoist recently described this version of Kara as being truly relatable to modern viewers.
Supergirl will also include several other DC Comics characters, including David Harewood as devious government official Hank Henshaw, Laura Benanti as Kara’s birth mother Alura Zor-El and Jeremy Jordan as the future Toyman.
Also cast in mystery roles are original Supergirl star Helen Slater and Lois and Clark‘s Dean Cain.
Producers have previously hinted that Supergirl could crossover with Arrow and The Flash once it debuts next season.
