Star Wars news came rushing in this afternoon with the biggest bits of news being the date and confirmation of the lead actress for Gareth Edward’s (director of Godzilla, Monsters) upcoming spin-off.
The film will be called Rogue One, and will feature Felicity Jones (Oscar-nominated for The Theory of Everything) in the lead role. Hot off the awards season trail for her work in Stephen Hawking feature, this is a huge part for Jones.
As for the title, it’s a strong hint that the film will introduce the Rogue Squadron. Rumours have been swirling, however, that the film would actually tell the story of the bounty hunters that stole the original plans for the Death Star.
Other news confirms Rian Johnson (Breaking Bad, Looper) will definitely be directing Episode VIII of the series which is due for release on 26th May 2017 meaning three Star Wars films in the space of two whole years.
Rogue One will be released on 16th December 2016.
