The past week saw the beautiful cheekbones of Benedict Cumberbatch grace our screen as Alan Turing in the biopic The Imitation Game. Not to mention the second showing of Kingsman: The Secret Service, which was a sellout once again. That’s not surprising considering that Colin Firth spent most of the film in a gloriously crisp suit. The Phoenix screened Lilting, a touching drama with Ben Whishaw. Below, see the films that will arrive at your student cinema this week.
Ida, Wednesday 18th at 7:30pm
Anna, an orphan brought up by nuns, is determined to meet her only living relative. Discovering her Jewish heritage, they embark on a journey to discover their tragic family story. Ida is the first Polish film to win an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, and understandably so.
The Dark Knight Rises, Thursday 19th at 7pm
Christopher Nolan’s last installment in the thrilling Batman trilogy is free! Tom Hardy plays Bane, Bruce Wayne’s final nemesis, hell-bent on coaxing Bruce out of his retirement and dusting off his black cape. Featuring a stand out cast of the talented Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Anne Hathaway, Dark Knight Rises is a absolute must-watch.
