It has been announced that the third and final series of My Mad Fat Diary will be starting on E4 this month.
The show, which is based on Rae Earl’s book of the same name, will return for three 60 minute episodes.
The comedy-drama series, set in the 1990s, tells the story of Rae (Sharon Rooney), an overweight teenager, who struggles to maintain an active social life, whilst also battling against her own crippling body confidence and mental health issues.
The synopsis for the final series reads:
Rae Earl is boss. Drinking, dancing and dating the hottest guy in the North – Rae has life as a teenager nailed. However, change is on the horizon as the gang grows up. Chloe has ambitions to attend business school, Finn wants to settle down and the spectre of university applications looms large. A new friend for Rae also forces her to see everything differently. As Rae struggles to maintain the status quo, will she be left behind or embrace the biggest adventure yet?
Series three will feature all of the original main cast, as well as newcomer Faye Marsay (Glue, Game of Thrones, Fresh Meat), who is set to play Rae’s new friend, Katie Springer.
A specific broadcast date and trailer have yet to be released, but the show’s Twitter account have confirmed that Rae and the gang will be back on our screens at some point this June.
