An official teaser trailer for Justin Kurzel’s adaptation of the infamous Shakespearean tragedy, Macbeth, has been released.
The film sees Oscar nominee, Michael Fassbender take the leading role of Macbeth – a brave Scottish general who turns to murderous scheming, as he chases after the prophecy of three witches who claim he will be King. Marion Cotillard co-stars as Lady Macbeth, while David Thewlis plays the ill-fated King Duncan. British actors Sean Harris, Jack Reynor and Paddy Considine also feature.
The Scottish play has been reimagined countless times on stage and screen, with previous Macbeth’s including the likes of Orson Welles, Kenneth Branagh and three of Fassbender’s X-Men colleagues: Sir Ian McKellen, Sir Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy.
This latest reboot was selected to compete for the prestigious Palme D’or award at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, but ultimately lost out to the French drama, Dheepan.
Director Kurzel is set to work with Fassbender again in the upcoming live-action adaptation of popular game franchise, Assassin’s Creed.
Macbeth is set to be released 2nd October later this year.
