A viral teaser for Ridley Scott’s latest sci-fi adventure, The Martian, has been released.
Though not an official trailer, the three-and-a-half minute clip introduces us to the crew of Ares 3, as main protagonist, Mark Watney (Matt Damon) gives a guided tour of the spacecraft – Hermes – and it’s team, before they all leave for Mars.
The clip – which is presented in a similar vein to the David 8 commercials from Scott’s 2012 project, Prometheus – features the likes of Jessica Chastain, Sebastian Stan and Kate Mara as Watney’s fellow crew members; all of whom are optimistic for the mission ahead.
However, the film itself revolves around a much unhappier plot, in which Watney is left stranded and alone in space, after being caught in a fire storm that – to the crew – appeared fatal. With limited supplies and a slim chance of survival, Watney must keep up his spirits and use the full extent of his wit and ingenuity to find a way to signal home.
Based on the novel of the same name by Andy Weir, the film boasts an all-star cast that also includes Kristen Wiig, Sean Bean, Jeff Daniels and Chiwetel Ejiofor. The book has been adapted for the screen by Drew Goddard.
The Martian is set to be released on 27th November.
