UEFA has announced that French DJ David Guetta will be writing and producing the official song for the Euro 2016 football tournament.
Guetta confirmed the news via his Twitter account, with the comment, “bring it on.” The EDM star will be playing at the opening ceremony of the tournament, which will be held at the Stade de France in Paris, next year. As well as producing the official song, UEFA have also stated that the Frenchman will be creating what the governing body calls the “musical identity” of the tournament. This includes such things as in-stadia audio and the global broadcast sequences.
The president of UEFA, legendary former France international footballer Michel Platini, stated:
“We wanted to work with David Guetta because he has proven throughout his career that he can create music which inspires people all around the world. David’s music has great energy so we look forward to seeing and hearing him add to the spirit and atmosphere of the tournament.”
Expressing his delight on the project, Guetta said:
“It is incredibly exciting to be part of this huge football tournament in my home country. Music and football go hand in hand. We want the fans to be at the very heart of everything that we do.” The artist will also perform a free concert at the Champ Mars in Paris on the eve of the tournament.”
The Euro 2016 tournament is set to be held in June 2016.
