Orange Is The New Black star Lea DeLaria teamed up with Conan O’Brien for an acappella jazz cover of David Bowie’s ‘Fame’ last night (17th June).
DeLaria, who plays Big Boo on the hit Netflix show, was appearing on Conan to promote the third season of Orange Is The New Black, which launched on Netflix last Friday (12th June). During the interview, she also discussed her second career as a jazz singer – explaining that she plans to release an album of Bowie cover songs, House Of David, later this month.
“I am a jazz singer,” DeLaria told the host. “I’ve got five records out on the Warner Jazz label – that’s the kind of music I do. So what we’re doing is jazz versions of David Bowie tunes, 12 of them. I love David Bowie, I’m a huge David Bowie fan.”
O’Brien then asked the singer-actress to perform a snippet of a Bowie song, which she agreed to try – provided O’Brien accompany her in the singing. DeLaria proceeded to sing a few bars of Bowie’s 1975 single ‘Fame’ backed by O’Brien, who attempted to recreate the track’s distinctive bassline.
Lea DeLaria’s House Of David album is set for release on 23rd June. Watch her performance on Conan below.
