Michael Sheen has signed up to the upcoming sci-fi thriller, Passengers – joining leading stars, Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence.
According to Variety, the Welsh actor will provide the voice of a robot who is travelling in space alongside the characters played by Pratt and Lawrence.
The film is set on a spacecraft in the future, where thousands of passengers are put into stasis as they make their way to a distant new planet. One passenger (Pratt) awakens from cryogenic sleep 90 years too early. Realising that his existence is likely to be blighted with loneliness, he decides to wake up a fellow passenger (Lawrence).
The film, written by Jon Spaihts, has struggled through the phases of pre-production since Sony first bought the rights in 2013. Questions of the film’s budget were contended with right up until the confirmation of Pratt and Lawrence’s involvement last month. The film, directed by Morten Tydlum is set to be released sometime next year.
Sheen, meanwhile is currently starring in the third season of hit Showtime drama, Masters of Sex – with other future commitments including Oppenheimer Strategies and Alice: Looking Through The Looking Glass.
