Editors have returned with another taste of their upcoming fifth record, In Dream, via the release of a new track and accompanying video.
‘Life Is A Fear’ was first aired on by Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio show earlier this evening (11th August), with ShortList Magazine premiering the video online shortly after.
The track serves as the forthcoming studio album’s third single, which follows in the same vein as previous tracks – ‘No Harm’ and ‘Marching Orders’ – with their signature dark, grungy synth-pop sound embedded over lead singer Tom Smith’s talented vocal projection of realist, thought-provoking lyrics. As a track, ‘Life Is A Fear’ bares some resemblance to 80’s synth-pop band Bronski Beat’s ‘Smalltown Boy’, but with a much darker, complex musical backdrop and use of experimental electronic beats.
The song’s accompanying video was directed by visual artist Rahi Rezvani, who collaborated with the British band for In Dream‘s previously released tracks. The visuals continue with the monochrome theme that the band have chosen for their new studio album, playing with light and darkness as the band are lit up entirely by lasers.
In Dream is set to be released on 2nd October. The album is produced by Alan Moulder (The Killers, Foals, Arctic Monkeys), and will also feature guest vocals from Rachel Goswell of Slowdrive.
