Showtime have renewed two of their most successful series; Masters of Sex and Ray Donovan.
Developed by Michelle Ashford, the former stars Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan as Masters and Johnson; the scientific minds behind the sexual revolution of the 1950’s and 60’s. Season three, which premiered in the US last month, sees the duo attempting to deal with the glare of the spotlight, after their study on ‘human sexual response’ is unleashed upon the wider public.
Meanwhile, Liev Schrieber stars as Hollywood fixer, Ray Donovan – the man who LA’s biggest celebrities and business moguls’ call to make their problems disappear. Created by David Hollander, the series also stars Jon Voight, Paula Malcolmson, Eddie Marsan and Steven Bauer. Both series have been picked up for a fourth season to air next year.
The announcement of the series’ renewals was made at the network’s TCA presentation by Showtime Networks president, David Nivens. Speaking of the two shows, Nivens said: “Both Ray Donovan and Masters of Sex are signature series for Showtime. They are emblematic of what Showtime stands for – quality, premium programming that you cannot find anywhere else on television.”
The third season of Ray Donovan is currently airing in the UK on Sky Atlantic. Meanwhile, the latest season of Masters of Sex – which has previously been broadcast on Channel 4 and More 4 – has yet to receive a UK air date.
