Studiocanal have released the first official teaser trailer for their Oscar-tipped drama, Carol.
Starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, the film is set in the 1950’s and follows the love story between Therese Belivet (Mara) – a 20 something clerk at a Manhattan department store – and the eponymous Carol (Blanchett), an alluring older woman who is trapped in a loveless marriage with her husband (Kyle Chandler).
In the trailer, which is set against Victor Young’s bitter-sweet melody, ‘My Foolish Heart’, we are given a glimpse into the lives of these two utterly disparate women and the fizzling chemistry that lies between them.
Based on Patricia Highsmith’s The Price of Salt, the screenplay was adapted by Phyllis Nagy. The film, directed by Todd Haynes, also received mass acclaim at this year’s Cannes Festival, where Mara won the prize for Best Actress.
