America’s most infamous (and fabulous) drag superstar, RuPaul has hinted that he is planning a “heavily music based” Drag Race movie, based on and featuring the stars of his hit reality TV show.
The 54 year old revealed his plans in the first issue of Gay Times‘ newest venture, Shade Dragazine. “It’s going to be a movie starring all the girls from our show, the big stars from RuPaul’s Drag Race, and that’s something we’re working on right now,” he told the magazine. “We’ve got a director for it, we’ve got a light script […] I think the only time I could possibly do it would be in October. We’ll have to see if it works for this October.”
The reality star then added that a UK version of Drag Race could soon be on the cards, given it’s expanding popularity on services such as Netflix and truTV. “Because truTV has brought all the seasons of Drag Race to the UK, I think that that might be something that will happen much sooner. I think that people will fall so in love with the show, I think that the hunger and the thirst for a UK version will probably happen. That’s my prediction.”
The reality show – hosted, judged and produced by RuPaul – follows the emotional highs and lows of enthusiastic drag performers as they compete to win the title of America’s Next Drag Superstar, alongside a cash prize of $100,000. Since it’s conception in 2009, the show has run for seven seasons, with an eighth series already in the pipeline.
