NBC have released a brand new promo for the upcoming third season of their hit crime series, The Blacklist.
Picking up right where the season 2 finale left off, the third season will see Red (James Spader) and Liz (Megan Boone) on the run, as they try to escape their former allies in the FBI taskforce, and pursue more of Red’s notorious ‘Blacklisters’.
The series follows the criminal exploits of Raymond “Red” Reddington and his chosen muse, Agent Elizabeth Keen.
In keeping with her new criminal status as a name on the FBI’s Most Wanted list, the minute long promo gives us a sneak peek at Liz’s new appearance – including a fresh blonde hairdo.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Jon Bokenkamp said: “What we hit on in the story is that by virtue of her being on the run and having to change her look, she ends up realizing that she may look like her mother. It felt like a really nice, organic way to take the on-the-run story of two fugitives and yet tie it back into the mythology of who Liz is, who Red is, what their relationship is and to lean into the bigger question of identity.”
According to Bokenkamp, the duo’s first mission in the opening episode of this season will be to get out of Washington D.C. “[D.C.] is a city that is designed to be able to be locked down in an incredibly short amount of time. Things go wrong,” he teased.
The Blacklist is set to return in the US on 1st October. It is expected to premiere in the UK on Sky Living a few weeks later. Watch the teaser below.
