It has finally been confirmed that the West End production of the hit-musical Aladdin will premiere on 9th June 2016.
The musical, based on the 1992 Disney film of the same name, will play at the Prince Edward Theatre in London – the previous home of Cameron Mackintosh’s revival of Miss Saigon.
It has also been confirmed that Trevor Dion Nicholas will play the iconic Genie, which was brought to life by Robin Williams in the original film. James Monroe Iglehart won the Tony award for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical in 2014 for his portrayal of the Genie in the Broadway production. The rest of the cast has yet to be announced.
The musical features songs from the original film such as Aladdin and Princess Jasmine’s duet ‘A Whole New World’ and the Genie’s ‘Friend Like Me’. It will also feature new songs by the original composer, Alan Menken, with lyrics by Tim Rice, Howard Ashman and Chad Baguelin. The London production will be directed and choreographed by The Book of Mormon‘s Casey Nicholaw.
