Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2.
Sia Vardalos penned the script for the sequel and returns as Toula Portokalos, who is married to John Corbett’s Ian and dealing with a daughter, Paris (Elena Kampouris), who is failing to embrace Greek culture, even though she’s surrounded by it.
It turns out that Toula’s parents were never legally married, which leads to another massive wedding. Because let’s face it, who doesn’t love a wedding? Meanwhile, Toula is desperately trying to stop her daughter running off to a far away college, while also attempting to get some alone time with her dishy husband.
Kirk Jones (Nanny McPhee) directs the long awaited sequel which is produced by Rita Wilson and Playtone partners Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman. Executive producers include Paul Brooks, Scott Niemeyer, Steven Shareshian and Vardalos.
The original film, starring Vardalos and Corbett, was a surprise success, making $368 million in worldwide grosses. IFC distributed My Big Fat Greek Wedding in the U.S., where it grossed $240 million.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 is set to be released on 25th March 2016 – 14 years after the original debuted.
