Two long years after the last series aired, the BBC have revealed a brief teaser trailer for the fourth series of Luther.
Idris Elba is set to return as Detective John Luther in the new episodes, alongside Michael Smiley and Dermot Crowley. Unfortunately Ruth Wilson is not expected to come back, meaning that Luther isn’t likely to team up with Alice Morgan this time around.
The series will also see a number of new faces in the new series, including Game of Thrones actors Rose Leslie and Patrick Malahide, Fortitude’s Darren Boyd, The Inbetweeners Movie actress Laura Haddock and Ripper Street’s John Heffernan.
The BBC’s official synopsis teases: “Luther’s back. Pitted against his most chilling adversary yet, haunted by the ghosts of his past and hell-bent on retribution, he’s drawn into a terrifyingly complex case that pushes him closer to the edge than he’s ever been.”
Created and written by Neil Cross, the series aired for the first time on BBC One in 2010. Elba also won a Golden Globe for his performance in 2012.
The new series will be a two-part special, which is set to air on 15th December on BBC One. Watch the video below.
