The BBC have revealed new details about this year’s Doctor Who Christmas special.

Chief among the newly released teases is the first image of Peter Capaldi and Alex Kingston as The Doctor and River Song. The festive special will mark the first time that Kingston’s vivacious companion comes face to face with the twelfth incarnation of the Time Lord.

The official synopsis for the episode reads:

“It’s Christmas Day on a remote human colony and the Doctor is hiding from Christmas Carols and Comedy Antlers. But when a crashed spaceship calls upon the Doctor for help, he finds himself recruited into River Song’s squad and hurled into a fast and frantic chase across the galaxy.

King Hydroflax is furious, and his giant Robot bodyguard is out-of-control and coming for them all! Will Nardole survive? And when will River Song work out who the Doctor is? All will be revealed on a starliner full of galactic super-villains and a destination the Doctor has been avoiding for a very long time.”

The Beeb have also revealed that comedians Greg Davies and Matt Lucas will guest-star in the episode, with Davies – who is perhaps best known for playing Mr. Gilbert in The Inbetweeners – playing King Hydroflax, and Lucas (best known for his partnership with David Walliams) portraying a mysterious character named Nardole.

The Doctor Who Christmas special will be broadcast on BBC One on 25th December.
