Reese Witherspoon’s production company will be developing an origin film about the all-American dream doll, Barbie.
Witherspoon is set to produce the film with her partner Bruna Papandrea through the Pacific Standard company. Bold Films have also stated that they will finance and co-produce the picture, entitled Barbie and Ruth.
It has been rumoured that Witherspoon will also be taking on the role of Ruth Handler, the creator of Barbie.
The film is adapted from Robin Gerber’s 2010 book, Barbie and Ruth: The Story of the World’s Most Famous Doll and the Woman Who Created Her. The biography details how Handler created the iconic toy after seeing her daughter Barbara playing with paper dolls. The original Barbie first appeared at the American International Toy Fair in 1959.
There is currently no release date for Barbie and Ruth.
