One could argue that Dave Grohl is the human incarnation of Animal when it comes to maniac drumming, and a recent duel between the two famous drummers only further illustrates that point.
Grohl’s and Animal’s drum off featured on the ninth episode of the current television series of The Muppets, with the Foo Fighters frontman sitting in with Miss Piggy’s house band, Electric Mayhem on her late night spot, Up Late with Miss Piggy. Grohl also featured in the 2011 feature film The Muppets as the drummer Animool.
The anticipatory duel began post-show, with Grohl stating that he’s been waiting years to challenge Animal. The wild-eyed muppet then begins to pound his kit in true Animal style, with Grohl retorting by tapping his cymbal and remarking to Animal: “Oh, what’s that? A bell? Time for school!”
From then on out, both pummelled the living hell out of their kits, eventually leading to – in true 90s Grohl style – both kits being destroyed and knocked to the ground.
