Golden Globe nominations for 2016 are announced

The nominations for the 73rd annual Golden Globe awards have been announced, heating up the anticipation for next year’s awards season.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association assembled a quartet of stars to announce this year’s nominees, including Chloe Grace-Moretz, Dennis Quaid, Angela Bassett and America Ferrera.

Todd Hayne’s emotional drama, Carol, proved to be an early frontrunner, earning nominations in several major categories including Best Drama, Best Actress and Best Director. Other films like Room, The Revenant, The Big Short and Mad Max: Fury Road also received multiple nods. This year’s nominations for the main categories are as follows:

In the television categories, Amazon Prime’s Mr. Robot has proven popular; earning a nomination for Best Drama Series, as well as two acting nominations for Rami Malek and Christian Slater. Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Viola Davis (How To Get Away With Murder) and Lady Gaga (American Horror Story: Hotel) have also been nominated in their respective acting categories.

The 73rd annual Golden Globe awards will take place on Sunday 10th January 2016, with Ricky Gervais on hosting duties. The full list of nominees can be found here.
