Barbara Windsor is among the leading entertainment and arts figures to be recognised in The Queen’s annual New Year’s honours list for 2015.
The actress, who is perhaps best known for her portrayal of Peggy Mitchell in the BBC soap opera Eastenders, will receive a Damehood for her services to charity and entertainment.
Speaking of the honour, the Carry On star told reporters that she was “thrilled” at the prospect of becoming “Dame Babs.”
Actress Sian Phillips is also set to receive a Damehood for her services to drama, while choreographer Matthew Bourne will be awarded a Knighthood for his contribution to dance.
Other newly honoured entertainment figures include Idris Elba (OBE), Blur’s Damon Albarn (OBE), Imelda Staunton (CBE), David Oyelowo (OBE), Sue Barker (OBE), James Nesbitt (OBE) and drum and bass star, Goldie (MBE).
