Oscar winner Mark Rylance has made his first appearance as the Big Friendly Giant in a new trailer for Steven Spielberg’s The BFG.
Based on the beloved children’s novel of the same name by Roald Dahl, the film follows the story of a young orphan called Sophie (played by newcomer, Ruby Barnhill) who is taken by a dream-wielding giant into a far-off country, rife with magic and danger.
In the trailer, we get a better insight into this world, as we see the wonderment of Giant Country through Sophie’s eyes. Fans of the book will also be pleased to catch sight of such iconic items as The BFG’s dream trumpet and the dreaded snozzcumber.
As well as finally getting a glimpse of Rylance’s endearing lead character – whom he portrays through motion capture technology – the trailer also ends with a glimpse at some of the more fearsome giants in Giant Country, including Bloodbottler (Bill Hader) and Fleshlumpeater (Jemaine Clement).
Dahl’s novel was last adapted in 1989, when Cosgrove Hall made an animated feature, which saw David Jason voice the BFG.
Also starring Penelope Wilton and Rebecca Hall, The BFG is set to hit UK cinemas on 22nd July 2016. Watch the new trailer below.
