We’ve finally got our first glimpse at Ant-Man’s induction into Team Cap.
With 18 days left to go until Captain America: Civil War, it’s time for the numerous, inevitable talk-show and chat show appearances for the cast – meaning that more and more promotional material, titbits and clips are set to emerge. One such case happened on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night when MCU stars, Paul Rudd, Sebastian Stan, Chris Evans and Anthony Mackie came on the show.
Although the teaser was little more than thirty seconds long, it perhaps best summed up as the introduction of Rudd’s Ant-Man to the wider Universe. Having starred in his surprisingly successful titular box office hit last season, criminal-turned-superhero Scott Lang is ‘another recruit’ for Captain America in the internal Avenger’s conflict. Having already seen previous hints at this alliance during the after-credits scene of Ant-Man, it will come as no surprise for fans to see Lang becoming pals with Cap and the Winter Soldier.
Although Cap seems composed and calm leading his somewhat rag-tag band of heroes (boasting the likes of Falcon, Scarlet Witch and Hawkeye) as they look to escape Tony Stark’s relentless pursuit following the passing of the Superhero Registration Act, Scott Lang appears anything but. Upon being startled awake and visibly confused following his trip in the van, he blearily questions ‘what timezone is this?’ before overzealously running up to Steve Rogers and shaking his hand in a fangirl-esque manner. Cap’s bemused expression only serves to improve the comic element.
It’s hard not to be sympathetic with Lang as that is exactly how most people would react if they ever met the actors and actresses in question, myself included. But, this expansion of the Avengers cast only bodes well in my opinion, with the addition of Rudd’s excellent comic timing. With just over two weeks to go, the hype train is full-steam ahead, and as the days pass by, I’m sure more and more people will become more committed to it.
Captain America: Civil War is set to hit UK cinemas on 29th April. (I already have my ticket, do you?)
