It has been reported that Lupita Nyong’o is in talks to join the upcoming Marvel flick, Black Panther.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Oscar-winning actress is in line to star as Chadwick Boseman’s love interest in the Ryan Coogler-directed superhero film.
Following his acclaimed appearance in Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther (otherwise known as T’Challa) will return to his roots, as the rightful king of Wakanda in the upcoming film. In the Marvel Universe, the fictional African kingdom is famous for it’s rich deposits of vibranium – the unbreakable metal used to make Captain America’s iconic shield.
Details about Nyong’o’s potential character are as yet unclear. In the comics, Black Panther has often been romantically linked with X-Men‘s Storm, however, a big-screen relationship is unlikely given 20th Century Fox’s long-gestating ownership of X-Men rights.
If Nyong’o does indeed join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it will be the second movie franchise she has conquered in her career, following her mo-cap appearance as Maz Kanata in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Black Panther will arrive in UK cinemas on 9th February 2018. Watch the badass feline warrior in action in the video below.
