Tom Hiddleston has addressed rumours as to whether he will take up the mantle of James Bond.
Last month, on 28th May, it was reported that The Avengers actor was in talks to take over the role of the famous British spy, James Bond, according to sources close to him.
Daniel Craig, the current Bond actor, has not yet confirmed that he will drop out of the emblematic role. However, previously, reports claimed that he had declined a £68 million offer to reprise the role.
During a panel at Wizard World Philadelphia, The Night Manager actor responded to the rumours: “I’m sorry to disappoint you everybody. I don’t think that announcement is coming. But I’m very gratified to hear the enthusiasm. There’s not much that I can say that I haven’t already said, but I know… your guess is as good as mine to be honest. ”
BBC News reported that Bookmaker Coral suspended betting on the next James Bond after a considerable amount of money was placed on Tom Hiddleston. The bookmaker suspended the betting after cutting his odds to 1-2. This latest surge in bets was sparked by the news that Hiddleston was spotted meeting with Sam Mendes, the current Bond director, last week.
Coral’s spokeswoman, Nicola McGeady, said: “There is no smoke without fire, and following the big gamble on Tom Hiddleston in the last 24 hours, we’ve had no choice to pull the plug on the market. Earlier in the year there was a gamble on Idris Elba and Damian Lewis, but nothing has come close to the recent gamble on Hiddleston.”
