Jack Whitehall is the preferred choice to be cast as Jamie Vardy’s agent, Josh Morris according to producer Adrian Butchart.
Vardy’s meteoric rise to success, culminating in becoming Premier League Champions this year with Leicester City, has been the scope of much focus in recent months. Many people have been linked to potential roles in the film, which was first announced in December. Among them, Louis Tomlinson has been speculated for the lead role of Vardy and Westlife singer Nicky Byrne as Kasper Schmeichel.
In an interview with The Sun, Butchart commented: “It’s very important to the authenticity of the football sequences to have actors who can also play well.” He used the recent charity Soccer Aid match as a scouting base, adding: “After the [Soccer Aid] game, several of the celebs expressed an interest in being in the film.” Other names that have been linked to the biopic include Hollywood legends Ryan Gosling and Leonardo Di Caprio.
Previously, a Warner Bros. source suggested they were looking to turn Vardy’s story into a film saying: “There is a lot of excitement about the Vardy project because companies have been looking at a new feel-good picture like [1989 baseball movie] Field Of Dreams for some time.”
The Jamie Vardy biopic is expected to be released in 2019. Watch Whitehall below in this clip from Soccer Aid.
