Prince’s motorcycle jacket and shirt were put up for auction earlier this week (June 26), at a starting price of £4,480 and £2,240. The Guardian revealed that the two eventually were sold for over £72,000 ($96,000) each.
The auction is running from July 1-3 as part of ‘Hollywood Auction 83’. Other items of Prince’s memorabilia sold included: a pair of boots from Prince’s 1988 Lovesexy Tour ($17,920); a necklace from the ‘Diamonds & Pearls’ music video ($8,320), and a shirt from the Purple Rain tour ($32,000).
The Guardian talked to Profiles in History founder Joe Maddalena, who stated how much the outfits were sold for, and also that “probably the signature thing he is known for is Purple Rain. It’s what made his career. It’s probably what he’ll be remembered for always. To have an important piece like this is pretty astonishing and an amazing opportunity.”
