Actress Scarlett Johansson has named her role as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Avengers franchise as her favourite role so far.
Johansson has played the role of Black Widow five times so far: in The Avengers, Age of Ultron, Civil War, Iron Man 2 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and it is clear she loves the enigmatic female badass.
Speaking to Michigan Avenue, when asked to comment on her favourite role, Johansson was effusive in her praise of Romanoff replying: “I really like playing Natasha; playing the Black Widow It’s been an interesting journey, to take a character and grow it over these years, and peel the layers back and be able to, as you do in life, grow with this person.”
She also cryptically teased of a lot more to come from the character, adding: “It’s a character that’s really enigmatic and has an amazing origins story, so there’s a lot for me to play off of.”
Johansson also praised the recent movement of the Academy for accepting 638 new members, including 41% whom were non-white and 46% whom were female. She commented: “It’s awesome to have a diverse group of people in an organisation like that.”
