Al Jean, the executive producer of The Simpsons has revealed that the opportunity is there to make a sequel film, if Matt Groening approves.
Jean, who was speaking at Comic Con did highlight that it would Matt Groening’s support to make a sequel film for the show, which recently finished airing it’s twenty-seventh season. Groening had previously stated a follow-up to the 2007 film was: “not a priority.”
Jean did offer fans of the show some hope that Springfield might return to the big-screen someday, saying: “We talk about it, but if we do it we only want to do it if it’s going to be really good.” This is likely due to the reception of the first film being very mixed.
The producer did want to make it clear that a film would not be done purely for the sake of money-making, adding: “We would never do it just to cash in, so if it comes out it’s because we believe in it.”
The Simpsons will premiere it’s twenty-eighth season in September. Watch the trailer for the original movie below:
