Jimmy Fallon is set to host the Golden Globes in 2017.
NBC boss Robert Greenblatt announced that the network had decided to inject some fresh blood into it’s roster of hosts, with the Tonight Show host set to take over the festivities at the 74th annual Golden Globe Awards.
For the past seven years, the prestigious awards ceremony has been hosted by either Ricky Gervais of the dynamic duo of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
The choice to select Fallon as host seems like a far safer bet than previous years; given that Gervais was notorious for taking his comic observations to the very edge. Still, it’ll be interesting to see how audiences will react to Fallon’s approach and whether this switch of style will help bump up the broadcast’s ratings – which have suffered from something of a slump for the past two years.
It will also be interesting to see how Fallon fares at glitzy-award hosting in comparison to his fellow Late Show hosts, Jimmy Kimmel (who is set to host the Emmys) and James Corden (who hosted this year’s Tony Awards to great acclaim).
The 74th annual Golden Globe Awards is set to take place on 8th January 2017.
