The first trailer for this summer’s Ghostbusters reboot has hit 1 million dislikes on Youtube.
The trailer was originally posted on the site on 3rd March 2016, and gathered strong criticism from many people, who were unhappy at the premise surrounding the reboot and questioned the need for a reboot as opposed to a sequel. Viewers have also criticised casting choices and special effects.
The film received mixed reviews from critics, despite the overwhelming marketing campaign across the world by Sony Pictures Entertainment, which was estimated to have cost around $300-400 million, in addition to the production costs of $144 million. The film has made just $177 million in the global box office since it was fully launched earlier this summer.
Although he did not explicitly state it in an interview, Paul Feig appeared to suggest that he had second doubts on the reboot. In an interview with the Huffington Post, when asked if he would do anymore reboots, Feig replied: “No, no, no. No, I will not”, but did add “This one was just too tempting because I knew we could do something with it that was exciting.”
Despite this, many members of the production team appear bullish about future sequels.
