Selena Gomez has decided to press pause on her current Revival Tour, and focus on her health following a bout of depression, anxiety and panic attacks.
Her mental health problems result as a side effect of her diagnosis with lupus. She revealed that she was diagnosed last year, and was undergoing treatment. Lupus is, according to the NHS, a misunderstood condition, and its symptoms can be both mild but also life-threatening.
In a statement, the 24 year old singer said:
” As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have Lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways. I’ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of Lupus, which can present their own challenges. I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off.”
She says that she hopes that by addressing her mental health issues straight on, it will encourage others to do the same.
Although it has not been confirmed that the remainder of her tour dates will be cancelled, it is expected that this will be the case. She was due to come to the UK in October.
During this difficult time, she expressed her love for her fans; “You know how special you are to me, but I am doing everything to be my best.” Listen to Gomez below:
