Popular Surge show, ‘Don’t Touch Me, I’m Famous’, hosted by Cameron Meldrum and Toby Leveson, and ‘The Lowdown with Tom Cross’ have been nominated for Best Entertainment Show 2016 at the Student Radio Awards. In addition, Tom Cross has been nominated for ‘Best Male’ Presenter.
The Awards, of which the winner will be announced on Thursday 10th November, will take place in London. The Awards, sponsored by BBC Radio and Capital amongst others aims to recognise the talent and commitment shown by both individual students and teams in student radio broadcasting. A number of other award categories are also set to be announced that night, including ‘Best Female’, ‘Best Multiplatform Initiative’ and ‘Best Station Branding’ among others.
When asked about his nomination, Cameron said: “We’re completely thrilled to be nominated!” before adding: “Our show is basically us messing around in a studio for an hour on a Monday evening, occasionally playing indie music in between features and threatening to dismantle the studio in order to find an old copy of NME stuck down a radiator!”
Toby Leveson also commented on the achievement on Facebook, saying: “After being nominated for Best Newcomer at the Student Radio Awards last year I honestly can’t believe that I have been nominated again, this time for Best Entertainment with my partner in crime Cameron Meldrum” He also affirmed his commitment to the cause of radio, “We turned up to our show every week, had a laugh and did some ridiculous things and I can’t believe that it’s been named one of the top six entertainment shows in student radio!”
