Lucasfilm have today released the second official trailer for upcoming Star Wars spin off film, Rogue One.
The new trailer further delves into the life of mercenary Jynn Erso (Felicity Jones), the impetuous and intrepid heroine who puts her darker past behind her to sow the seeds of the Rebellion from Episode IV: A New Hope. Erso clearly begins as the reluctant heroine, drawn into the fight by accident following a prison-break, but we see her begin to develop into the titular leader of Rogue One, the team sent to stop the Death Star’s construction.
We also get a better glimpse at the almost megalomaniac Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn), the Empire’s Advanced Weapon Director who will stop at nothing to have a fully functioning Death Star weapon. Krennic himself even states: “The power we are dealing with here… is immeasurable.” It appears the rebels recognise this too, with one even desperately stating, “What chance do we have?”
Some awesome shots of an AT-AT destroying a village, plus a jungle battle and a brilliant glimpse of Forest Whitaker’s cyborg mercenary Saw Gerrera altogether make another brilliant trailer. Lucasfilm need to deliver if they are going to touch the original trilogy, and all evidence so far suggests they are definitely doing it justice.
Star Wars: Rogue One is out in cinemas on 16th December 2016. Watch the newest trailer below:
